Ömer Halaç was born in Emirdağ, Afyon in 1970. Halaç graduated in Industrial Engineering from the Anatolian University. After completing his Master degree at Istanbul University in International Business Administration, he set up Halaç Jewelry Limited and started operating in the Grand Bazaar.
In 2002, Halaç Jewelry Limited bought the majority of shares in Istanbul Gold Refinery, which had been founded by the Turkish Treasury, Istanbul Gold Exchange and Vakıfbank. Advanced production technology and strong business relations led to rapid success in the refining sector.
Thriving in business, Ömer Halaç did great deeds not only for his company, but also for the country, his accomplishments included the first production of 999.9/1000 gold in Turkey, acceptance into the Istanbul Gold Exchange and Turkish Mints and the accreditation by TURKAK.
Successful in personal relations as well as business, Ömer Halaç also ran operations to research mining opportunities internationally. During his visit to the Central Republic of Africa, malaria led to his fateful demise at the young age of 38 on 12th of May 2008.
He remains a well-regarded and remembered by IGR and by many others who try to follow in his footsteps to gain success in the precious metals sector.
